Now now. Let's be fair. Remember they didn't have CAD (Computer Assisted Design) back then. These days you can do the equivalent of 10,000 crash tests on a computer before you even build the thing. Cars are -- no joke -- three to four times safer today than they were back in those days.
Besides, if you want horrible death in a tin can today, all ya gotta buy is a SmartCar.

Ford knew there was a problem. That's been established.
They had a better gas tank but decided not to go with it because of costs. That's been established, too.
And Pintos tended to blow up when rear-ended. That's a historical fact, of which this post takes note.
